I run my antivirus almost everyday and also have three spyware and adaware scanners. There is always about 4 pieces of spyware per day, which isnt usual since I surf the web quite alot. The weird thing is that viperbot works fine on my laptop at home and at work and also on another desktop at work. What I need to do is to reformat XP...but everything is working fine on this computer. Presently I'm in no rush to reformat. I can keep viperbot in the bot mode on my other laptop and use my friends password to get into another nick. I've exhausted all possibilities...if necessary I can use my laptop at home to go into the bot mode. I guess problems may happen in 1 out of 50 computers and I must be the one..

jshapiro, this is probably a stupid question, but have you tried turning off the fire-wall? I tried to help a friend ages ago on NSM, and for 2 weeks we belted our heads up against the wall until one day, she tried turning the fire-wall off, and it went in easily. Never heard of that problem before or since, but may be worth a try.

This article was previously published under Q319692 SYMPTOMS A Winsock control may fire a DataArrival event with valid data length (a number that is greater than 0) after the Close event. If you try to call the GetData method for that event, you receive the following error message: Run-time error: 40006 Wrong protocol or connection state for the requested transaction or request. CAUSE This problem occurs because of a bug in the Winsock control. Although the occurrence of this problem depends on data flow between two entities, the problem may occur more consistently when the client (receiver) application is much slower than the server (transmitter) application, and when no application-level flow control is implemented. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Visual Studio 6.0. For more information, visit the following Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) Web site: _________________________________________ msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/previous/vs6/downloads/default.aspxHotfix information A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. I assumed it was to be extracted there. Worked when I extracted it to viperbot, except I couldnt get in

Finally!!!!! But I had to reformat for other reasons as well...maybe it was a virus that I had before or some corrupted files. But anyways I thought reformatting would take less time then troubleshooting this problem. However I have to admit I could have looked for the answer and spent several hours doing it. Sometime even in troubleshooting, the best way is to reformat...if it saves time. I've connected now with absolutely no problem. ;D Case finally closed Thanks everyone for the time spent helping me.

I'm ashamed to say, telling others not to do it but I accidently had opened a zip file called new_price_list.zip and (excuse the phrase) but it opened a can of worms. So its possible that because of the destructive nature of this virus, it corrupted a dll file. Actually I thought I cleaned out this computer but it probably had a trojan that was undetected. Besides the fact that it corrupted my norton antivirus, it probably had other side effects
